Boulder Geese
The Boulder Geese of Great Chief Park 2018$75,000Great Chief Park, Red Deer Alberta. Site area approx. 1 lin. block. Cast aluminum, river boulders, stainless steel pins & Duck Bill anchors. 16 Natural round large river boulders transformed into a flock of Canadian Geese. Imbued with a sensation of whimsy and playfulness grouped to encourage multiple viewing directions to maximize and encourage social engagement.
The local community has taken the initiative to dress the Boulder Geese according to the weather and social conditions. This shared idea of "take what you need and leave what you don’t" encourages residents to leave items like toques, blankets, and scarves for others to use. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this practice has also included wearing masks. The sculptures are well cared for and adapt to the changing seasons, making this an ongoing project that is spontaneously initiated and diligently maintained by the residents.
