The Living Lounge

Our goal for the project is to create a highly visible artwork that stimulates the public’s imagination in this “outdoor room” with a sense of lightheartedness and humour. 

 

The large-scale stone cushions in the outdoor room. Each sculpted cushion resembles throw pillows on a living room couch or a bedroom floor. Viewers are drawn to this inviting ‘outdoor comfort room’ as a place to relax or have fun with these interactive sculptures. 

 

This sculptural installation is also a visual pun in that it juxtaposes concept with reality. While the form is soft conceptually, it is stone hard in reality.

 

From the vantage of the second level walkway this very engaging series of sculptures is evocative of the comforts of home. 

 

This installation in the City of North Vancouver creates a compelling and timeless public artwork that both conveys and adds to the many attributes of this site. The Living Lounge has become a gathering spot for residents and visitors to the Lynn Valley Centre.
